ELIZABETHTON â A woman who had beencharged with attempted first-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping pleaded guilty in Carter County Criminal Court on Thursday to a lesser charge of aggravated kidnapping.
Angela Diane Hudson-Adams, was sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Stacy Street to 10 years in prison. According to state law, there is no release eligibility for a person convicted of aggravated kidnapping. The law says
Hudson-Adams will serve 100 percent of the sentence imposed by the court.
The attempted first degree murder charge and another especially aggravated kidnapping charge were dismissed.
The charges stem from an incident on May 19, 2019. Officers reported Hudson-Adams told them she and two men were in her residence with the victim when one of the men tied the victim to a chair.
Six more people pleaded guilty in Carter County Criminal Court Thursday in a large methamphetamine conspiracy case from 2019.
The investigation, which was code named Operation Sundown, led to 44 indictments, which led to a roundup of defendants Aug. 20-21, 2019.
The investigation was operated by the Carter County Sheriffâs Office, Erwin Police Department, the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and Homeland Security.
The conspiracy involved more than 200 grams of methamphetamine.
At the time of the arrests, Carter County officials said although opioids seem to be getting a lot more publicity these days, in Carter County and Elizabethton, methamphetamine is still the biggest problem and is continuing to grow.
Their preliminary hearing was held Friday morning in Carter County Sessions Court.
After the hearing, Judge Keith Bowers Jr. bound over Jason Bryan Barber II, 18; Jediah Shane Glover, 20; and Zachary Scott Scalf, 20. Each is charged with first-degree murder, eight counts of aggravated assault reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and criminal conspiracy. The men are scheduled to appear in Carter County Criminal Court on April 12.
They remain in the Carter County Jail on pretrial confinement.
Bowers kept the bond for each man at $900,000. He also scheduled another preliminary hearing on Jan. 29 for Barber and Glover on counts of aggravated assault in a different shooting incident on Swimming Pool Road in Hampton.
