Carnegie Museum Workers In Pittsburgh Vote to Become USW Members

The workers will become part of a 500-member USW unit called the United Museum Workers. They serve as scientists, educators, art handlers, front desk and administrative staff, gift shop clerks, ushers and other workers at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie Science Center and the Andy Warhol Museum. “We are thrilled to become members of the strong and diverse labor union whose founding members helped to build the fortune of our museum’s namesake,” said Gabi DiDonna, associate registrar at the Carnegie Museum of Art. “We look forward to having a seat at the table and a voice in the decisions that affect our quality of life both on and off the job.”

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh Staff members across the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh have voted by a substantial margin to join the United Steelworkers Union (USW). Eileen Viloria, a youth programs coordinator at the Warhol Museum who is on the museums union organising committee, said the vote was 278-75 in favour. The employees, who work at the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Andy Warhol Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Science Center, will become part of a new 500-member USW unit called the United Museum Workers. The workers include non-supervisory curators and curatorial assistants, scientists, educators, art handlers, front desk and administrative staff, gift shop workers and others.

She brings interconnectivity to the classroom and to her current research, which involves integrating better solutions for community health, accessibility, and adaptability.
