Mitchell & Webber to trial biofuel made from fat

The fuel is produced from waste fats and oils. Mitchell & Webber, a south west oil supplier, is the first distributor to deliver the new, low carbon heating fuel for UK trials, which could revolutionise both the domestic heating market and agricultural sector. Robert Weedon, managing director, said: “We’re so excited that Cornwall is leading the way in these national trials! This is a huge and much-needed step in the right direction for lowering carbon emissions across the country.” The fossil-free renewable fuel, called Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO), is produced from certified waste fats and oils. Unlike previous biofuels, HVO is manufactured by a synthesised process with hydrogen to create a greener, renewable fuel.

Test project for Unilever yields new circular packaging for bouillon powder

Greiner Packaging The tub and lid for the new K3-F packaging for Knorr bouillon powder have been produced from 100 percent certified circular PP from post-consumer plastic material for the first time. Greiner Packaging has developed a tub and lid for customer Unilever s Knoff brand of bouilllion powder that offers a more sustainable option to standard cardboard and packaging combinations. The container uses 100 percent certified postconsumer polypropylene and was created  within the scope of a pilot project with global petrochemical leader Sabic and brand owner Unilever. The package uses PP from Sabic’s Trucircle portfolio, produced through the feedstock recycling of used and mixed plastic otherwise destined for incineration or landfill. These waste plastics are broken down into the original molecular building blocks, by heating these at a high temperature in an oxygen-free environment, producing pyrolysis oil.
