Shots fired Wednesday night near SIU campus

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) A  reported drive-by shooting Wednesday night triggered SIU to send a mass alert to its students. The shots were reported in the eight o’clock hour near the intersection of Oakland and Freeman Streets. According to the university, a vehicle involved in the shooting was abandoned in a campus parking lot. The occupants of the vehicle then entered the nearby Thompson Woods. The university later issued an all clear message saying the suspects had left the campus, heading north on Highway 51. Carbondale Police have not released nay information about the incident. Shots Fired Near SIUC Campus, Police Seeking Information

Carbondale Police are working with SIU s Department of Public Safety after shots were fired near campus Wednesday night. Police say they were called to reports of shots fired just after 8:30, along Oakland Avenue between Schwartz and College. An abandoned vehicle was found a short time later on campus - with gunshot damage. Two people - both described as black males - were seen getting out of that car and into another - a message from campus police said the two fled into Thompson Woods and got into the other car, exiting campus northbound on Highway 51. Investigators say they recovered two handguns along Oakland Avenue, and say the incident involved people in two different cars shooting at each other. No one was injured.

Carbondale Man Accused of Shooting into a Residence

A Carbondale man is accused of firing shots into a residence. Carbondale Police say 56-year-old Thomas Hudson is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, No Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and Resisting a Peace Officer. Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of West Cherry Street on Monday afternoon. They were told a man fired shots into the residence and fled on a bicycle. Police found Hudson riding a bike in the area. He initially resisted efforts to stop him, but he was taken into custody without further incident.  Hudson was found to be in possession of a handgun. 

One arrested after shots fired at Carbondale residence

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) A Carbondale man has been arrested for firing shots at a home in Carbondale. According to Carbondale Police, Thomas Hudson, 56,  fired the shots at about 2:50 p.m. Monday at a home in the 300 block of West Cherry Street. Police say Hudson then fled the area on a bicycle. Officers were able to locate Hudson shortly thereafter. After initially refusing to comply with the officer’s commands, Hudson was taken into custody without further incident. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail. He faces charges of  Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, No Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, and Resisting a Peace Officer.
