View Comments The League of Latin American Citizens and other allied organizations held a rally Saturday against Texas Senate Bill 3 legislation, which would affect social studies curriculum.  The rally, held at the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and attended by about 70 people, featured speakers from numerous organizations including LULAC Para Todos and the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers.  (Legislators) just want us to learn about Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin and the Alamo, whereas Texas history is so much more diverse, LULAC Para Todos President Eric Holguin said. There is so much culture, there are stories of struggle, there are stories of perseverance and we want to make sure that those stories and lessons are told in our public schools.

President of the Corpus Christi chapter of the NAACP Jeremy Coleman said he was angered by the bill and said the NAACP will be pushing legislators not to pass the bill.

Zavala Elementary receives $21,000 grant for new teacher wellness room Texas football coach feeds players after storm Replay Video UP NEXT Zavala elementary school is receiving $21,000 from the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers for the construction of a garden area and a wellness and calm room for teachers.  The funding comes as a requested COVID-19 response grant from the American Federation of Teachers.  The stress on teachers right now is overwhelming, it s never been seen before, CCAFT President Nancy Vera said. They need a place to relax, they need a place to unwind and to get themselves together.   The soundproof room will provide teachers with access to diffusers, a white noise machine, massage chairs and dim lighting. The garden area will consist of a greenhouse, benches and space for outside privacy.
