As of 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, the weather service said residents should expect frequent lightning, harsh winds and small hail during today s storms.
Just before 8:15 a.m., crews for the Texas Department of Transportation began rerouting traffic off the U.S. Highway 77 frontage roads between Robstown and Calallen because of rising water. Several roads have closed due to weather.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop across South Texas Wednesday due to a slow moving storm system. Flash flooding and rapid rises in streams and rivers were anticipated because of periods of heavy rainfall.
