Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine distribution pause impact

How Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine distribution pause will impact the Coastal Bend Mayor Paulette Guajardo says the distribution pause will impact the future of the Help our Homeless vaccination program. Author: Julissa Garza Updated: 10:08 PM CDT April 13, 2021 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas City County Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez says the recommendation coming down from the FDA and CDC to stop administering the Johnson and Johnson vaccine creates a small set back towards achieving herd immunity for the Coastal Bend. “This vaccine is one and done we were looking forward to saying all these people are completely vaccinated with the one dose just for the hopes that we can get closer to herd immunity, so we do worry,” said Rodriguez.

City, County leaders commemorate COVID-19 anniversary

Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales wiped away a tear while she talks about those who have lost their lives from COVID-19 on Saturday.  A year ago, Canales issued a declaration of local disaster for public health emergency. More than 700 people in the county have died of COVID-19 related illness since the pandemic last year.  In one year we have had one purpose, Canales said during her speech, and that is to save lives. Canales, Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo and Nueces County health director Annette Rodriguez spoke at the event commemorating the one-year anniversary of COVID-19. Each spoke about the past year, and discussed the county s current plan, and also participating in a wreath laying ceremony. There were about 20 people at the event.

Events postponed and set to resume in 2022 are the BBQ on the Bay competition, concerts at Rodeo Corpus Christi, Treasure Island shopping and the Buc Days Junior Parade. Since 1938, the nonprofit Buccaneer Commission has annually held the Buccaneer Days festival in support of bringing entertaining, educational and cultural events to the Coastal Bend. Beginning in 1996, proceeds from Buc Days have been awarded to students as college scholarships.

Pusley accuses Canales of overstepping her role in county s vaccination distribution

Pusley accuses Canales of overstepping her role in county s vaccination distribution and last updated 2021-02-26 23:21:47-05 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District is getting ready to ramp up vaccine distribution, which is a decision at-large city council member Mike Pusley supports. However, he said he doesn t agree with the decision-making, after unsuccessfully lobbying for vaccine events to take place at more locations throughout the city, such as Flour Bluff and Padre Island. The county judge feels she should be in charge of the process, he said. We have asked time and time again to be allowed to have distribution points within the city limits of Corpus Christi. She has not been amenable to that.
