Metro’s green shoots to sprout on Army land ByNaveen MenezesNaveen Menezes / Updated: Apr 19, 2021, 06:00 IST BMRCL draws up plan to plant 4,990 saplings, uploads details on its website The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), which recently received approvals for axing 499 trees in four different locations for the Phase II Metro project, will be taking up compensatory plantation mostly on Army land, documents show. The BMRCL’s newly-formed social and environment wing has drawn up a plan to plant 4,990 saplings in May and June this year. Documents show that City-based Nurserymen Co-operative Society Ltd has been entrusted with the task of compensatory plantation with the responsibility to maintain the plants for the next three years. During the maintenance period, the agency is expected to water the plants, remove weeds and grass, prepare quarterly reports on the growth of plants with photographers as well as replace dead plants to ensure 100 per cent survival.

Lt Col Julee, company commander and the training officer who oversaw the training of the first batch of women sepoys The first-ever batch of women who will be inducted into the rank-and-file of the Indian army have transformed into professional soldiers from cadets that came in with inhibitions, the commandant of the Corps of Military Police (CMP) Centre and School, where they are training, said, adding that it will take a while for the system to accept them, but that the national will be very proud of them soon. “These girls who had come, initially with a lot of inhibitions and deficiencies have actually been transformed into professional soldiers all thanks to their own hard work, grit and determination they have, the zeal and the passion. Needless to say that the instructors and the trainers have worked really hard with them and that’s why they turned out to be what they are today,” Brigadier C Dayalan, commandant, CMP Centre and School, said.
