Metro’s green shoots to sprout on Army land ByNaveen MenezesNaveen Menezes / Updated: Apr 19, 2021, 06:00 IST BMRCL draws up plan to plant 4,990 saplings, uploads details on its website The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), which recently received approvals for axing 499 trees in four different locations for the Phase II Metro project, will be taking up compensatory plantation mostly on Army land, documents show. The BMRCL’s newly-formed social and environment wing has drawn up a plan to plant 4,990 saplings in May and June this year. Documents show that City-based Nurserymen Co-operative Society Ltd has been entrusted with the task of compensatory plantation with the responsibility to maintain the plants for the next three years. During the maintenance period, the agency is expected to water the plants, remove weeds and grass, prepare quarterly reports on the growth of plants with photographers as well as replace dead plants to ensure 100 per cent survival.
