It’ll be a battle of strawweight contenders headlining the UFC’s October 9th Fight Night event.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that #5 ranked Marina Rodriguez and #6 Mackenzie Dern will compete in a five-rounder at a location TBD. It’s expected that the remaining Fight Night shows of 2021 will be at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Dern (11-1) is on a four-fight winning streak, most recently submitting Nina Nunes by armbar in April. The decorated jiu-jitsu star has also tapped out Randa Markos, Hannah Cifers, and Amanda Cooper in her UFC career. Only Amanda Ribas has bested Dern in her MMA career, and she’s looked terrific since that lone defeat.

UFC flyweights Maryna Moroz and Luana Carolina will collide inside the octagon at a UFC Fight Night show on Oct. 16 in Las Vegas, multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting following an initial report from Combate.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the event and its headlining attraction.
Moroz (10-3) is looking for her third straight victory as a UFC flyweight following decisions over Sabina Mazo and Mayra Bueno Silva in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
“Iron Lady” moved up a division after going 3-3 as a strawweight in the company, capped off by consecutive defeats to top-ranked 115-pounders Angela Hill and Carla Esparza.
