Two men plead guilty to Ambleside knife fight

TWO MEN involved in a knife fight in Ambleside will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court next month. Antonio Da Silva, of Old Norse, Compston Street, Ambleside, and William Metcalfe, of Morley Avenue, Blackburn, both pleaded guilty to handling a blade in a public place without good reason or lawful authority at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. Da Silva, 38, and Metcalfe, 22, were both involved in an incident which took place on July 14, 2020. At around 3.30am, Cumbria police, were called to Da Silva’s address to initial reports of a domestic incident between the 38-year-old and Metcalfe. The court heard that video footage showed Da Silva leaving his Ambleside flat in possession of a blue knife and was shouting, making threats towards Metcalfe and his mother.

Workington woman sentencing delayed at Carlisle Crown Court

A Workington woman who was due to be sentenced for possessing heroin with intent to supply has seen her case adjourned. Dawn Annette Hilland, 55, admitted two offences relating to the class A drug at Carlisle Crown Court last month. Hilland, of Roper Street in Workington, committed the first offence on January 13 2019 in the town, while the second charge related to an incident on October 31 the same year. She was found to have 3.4g of the drug in a bedroom at her home – but prosecutors accepted at an earlier hearing she was acting as a custodian for the heroin on behalf of others.

West Cumbrian man admits three counts of sexual assault A Whitehaven man has admitted three counts of sexual assault against a woman. Scott James Fleming appeared before Workington’s magistrates’ court on April 30 accused of two counts of sexual assault of a woman aged 16 or over on September 4 last year and a third count of sexual assault of a woman aged 16 or over on August 1 last year. Fleming, of Meadow View, admitted all three offences. The 27-year-old will be sentenced on Carlisle Crown Court on May 28. ADVERTISEMENT

Man to be sentenced for sexual touching

A WHITEHAVEN man has been committed to crown court for sentencing after admitting three charges of sexual assault by touching. Scott James Fleming, of Meadow View, Whitehaven, appeared before North and West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Workington Magistrates Court on Friday. The 27-year-old indicated a guilty plea to three charges of intentionally and sexually touching a woman aged over 16 or over when she did not consent and when he did not reasonably believe she was consenting. Fleming was charged under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. The charges related to three incidents on two separate dates – the first related to an incident on August 1 2020 in Whitehaven.
