TELEHEALTH COVERAGE BILL INTRODUCED: Lawmakers, providers and insurers are looking at the future of telehealth in a post-pandemic world and how the rapidly growing service will be covered by insurance.
State Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Elmhurst) has introduced Illinois HB 3498, which would require insurers to cover telehealth services at the same rate as in-person care after the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill also prohibits geographic or facility restrictions on telehealth services and allows patients to be treated via telehealth in their home. Similar legislation introduced in May died in committee.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Researchers who focus on fat know that some adipose tissue is more prone to inflammation-related comorbidities than others, but the reasons why are not well understood. Thanks to a new analytical technique, scientists are getting a clearer view of the microenvironments found within adipose tissue associated with obesity. This advance may illuminate why some adipose tissues are more prone to inflammation - leading to diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disorders - and help direct future drug therapies to treat obesity.

People who have navigated tough situations in health care often have the best ideas for how to improve the system.
The goal of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine Health Make-a-Thon competition is to provide the support that everyday people need to help bring those ideas to life.
The competition is organized by Health Maker Lab a maker lab network at the college.
Each year, 10 winners receive $10,000 in resources, materials and mentorship from University of Illinois experts. The program, which is open to all Illinois residents, is now in its third year.
The deadline to apply is Friday, Jan. 22, with the virtual competition scheduled for April 17.
