Although, as a company, Essential was not very successful, it became a unicorn, receiving a company valuation of over $1 billion before selling a single product. Before its downfall, the company had released its Essential PH-1 handset and was planning to launch the PH-2 and PH-3 models along with an ultra-thin handset.
Carl Pei is mum lipped about the ventures of his new startup. So, we cannot guess whether it will work out or whether it will have an Essential-like fate.
Nothing has reportedly acquired the intellectual property rights of now defunct smartphone brand Essential. The move suggests that Nothing may venture into the smartphone market with new offerings, but the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

After Carl Pei s new brand Nothing made a series of small announcements regarding what products it s going to release, it looks like the company has a lot more to offer as it is now the single owner of Andy Rubin s Essential smartphone company.
The confirmation comes from 9to5Google who found recent filings at the UK Intellectual Property Office which showed that former Android founder Andy Rubin has signed over ownership of his one-time smartphone company Essential to Carl Pei’s Nothing Technologies Limited. This process was completed as of January 6, 2021, with the application actually being made as early as November 11, 2020 .
