Matthew Lloyd has questioned Carltonâs decision to offer veteran small forward Eddie Betts a contract for the 2021 season.
Betts, 34, has kicked two goals from four games with the Blues currently short on creative forward options with Zac Fisher, Jack Martin and Jack Silvagni all sidelined through injury.
Carltonâs 18-point loss to Brisbane on Saturday was their fourth in six games with their two wins this season coming against an injury-hit Fremantle and Gold Coast.
If playing finals becomes an unlikely proposition, Lloyd wonders if the Blues will move on from Betts and look to get games into younger players.
The timing for Teague is horrible

Your team has been viciously questioned, and rightly so. They’ve deserved it.
Despite the subpar performances, coach David Teague has surprisingly remained optimistic.
Bizarrely, he highlighted winning the inside 50 count after the putrid loss against Port Adelaide last Saturday night.
This time last week I was critical of his comments on
SEN Breakfast with Garry and Tim, in particular the admission that his team ‘might not win’ but that doesn’t matter provided they play the right way.
Unfortunately, the Blues did neither.
Most concerningly for Teague was the news this week that Carlton have hired West Coast premiership coach John Worslfold to be his mentor.
Worsfold takes up role at Carlton

John Worsfold has taken up a consultancy role with Carlton.
Worsfold, who finished up as Essendon coach last year, will work closely with David Teague and his coaching group as a mentor.
The West Coast premiership coach commenced his career in the caper with the Blues back in 2000 and has previously worked with Teague at the Eagles.
“Our coaches demand that our players are doing everything they can to get better, they also have that same expectation on themselves, which is driven by our Senior Coach,” Carlton’s head of football Brad Lloyd said in a statement.

Former Essendon coach John Worsfold is back at an AFL club, accepting a part-time consultant role at Carlton.
Worsfold left the Bombers at the end of 2020 as part of a coaching succession plan which eventually saw Ben Rutten take over from the start of the current season.
In the new role, heâll become David Teagueâs mentor and continue an informal relationship theyâve established for several months.
Speaking for the first time since the announcement was made, Rutten said he was thrilled that his former colleague was back working at the highest level of the game.
