OUT WEST ROUNDUP | Grizzlies expand turf, need protections; NM oil, gas production up

Scientists: Grizzlies expand turf but still need protection BILLINGS, Mont. — Grizzly bears are slowly expanding the turf where they roam in parts of the northern Rocky Mountains but need continued protections, according to government scientists who concluded that no other areas of the country would be suitable for reintroducing the fearsome predators. The challenge filed last week in federal court follows a similar case brought in 2020 by the Navajo Nation, the nation s largest Native American tribe, and several environmental groups.
