In my family, I would have to say that person was my dad; with his drive and energy, he created several successful small businesses from scratch during his lifetime. Although he didn’t have much growing up, he saw possibilities everywhere. He inspired our family to use all the resources we had.

City of Carlsbad update: Public Library hosts photography contest

Calling all photographers! The Carlsbad Public Library is hosting an amateur photography contest through Jan. 15. The theme for this contest is “The Beauty of Carlsbad” and each participant is asked to submit one original digital photograph. The library plans to include these pictures, which must be taken within the City of Carlsbad, in an online photography gallery.
There will be 3 categories- kindergarten through 5th grade, 6-8th grade, and high school through adult. Photos will be judged on impact, composition and quality of lighting, and there will be first, second and third place prizes awarded.
