A man found dead in a vehicle Tuesday evening just west of Parachute had been shot multiple times, the Garfield County Sheriffâs Office said.
The Sheriffâs Office said in a news release that Wayne Moore, 60, was declared dead at the scene.
The Sheriffâs Office is asking for information from the public on the incident.
âWhile the incident is being treated as a homicide, there is no reason to believe there exists an ongoing threat to the public,â the sheriffâs office said.
Sheriffâs deputies had responded to a call at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday about an injured person along U.S. Highway 6. They found Moore in a vehicle parked in a wide area on the shoulder of the highway.
Three people were killed in unrelated motor vehicle crashes over the course of five days last week.
The first crash occurred shortly after noon on Sunday, May 2, when a vehicle struck a pedestrian near 28½ Road and North Avenue.
A 62-year-old woman was sitting on the northside curb between Carlâs Jr. and O Reilly Auto parts at the exit of East Gate Shopping Center, according to police.
A male, leaving the shopping center in his vehicle, reportedly did not see the woman and struck her with his car. She received medical attention at the scene, but died en route to the hospital.
UPDATE: Garfield County authorities have identified the woman whose body was found north of Rifle near Colorado Highway 13 last week as Sunny Morrisette, age 38, of Rifle.
An autopsy performed May 6, the day after the body was found on private property just off the highway, revealed no injuries that contributed to Morrisette’s death, according to a Monday press release from Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire.
“The forensic pathologist will be completing microscopic examination of tissue specimens and waiting for toxicology results before forming an opinion on Ms. Morrisette’s cause of death,” Glassmire said in the release. “The manner of death remains under investigation.”
Authorities are investigating the death of a female whose body was found north of Rifle.
The Garfield County Sheriffâs Office said in a news release that it responded about 2 p.m. Wednesday to a call about a body discovered in a field about 75-100 yards west of Colorado Highway 13 near mile marker 3.
The Garfield County Coronerâs Office was contacted and an autopsy ordered. Sheriffâs spokesman Walt Stowe said no identification was found on the body.
The Colorado Department of Transportation, Grand Junction and Mesa County are looking into developing conceptual plans for a possible mobility hub in the Grand Valley.
Such a hub would serve as a focal point for residents and visitors to access multimodal transportation options in a central location.
Options for such a hub could include services such as Greyhound, Bustang, Grand Valley Transit, passenger rail, rideshare connections and a slew of nonmotorized transportation, such as biking, bike parking, scooters, e-bikes and access for walkers.
According to CDOT, all of those things are available in the valley, but they are not all tied together. The study could consider a single hub or a system of them.
