LONDON .- One of the UK’s greatest art collections will have a magnificent new setting when The Courtauld, one of the world’s leading centres for the study of art history, research and conservation, opens its historic central London gallery in late 2021. The reopening follows a major transformation to restore its grandeur and create state-of-the-art facilities, which is supported by £9.5 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and generous donations from foundations, individuals and other supporters. Shakespeare North Prescot gets £3m Capital Kickstart Grant

THE upcoming Shakespeare North Playhouse has been given a £3m boost as part of a government protection package for the cultural and heritage sector from the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The playhouse, which is under construction in Prescot, has been successful in a bid for a Capital Kickstart Grant of £3m from the Government. The funding is part of the £1.57bn package established to protect the UK’s culture and heritage sector from the economic impact of COVID-19. The £3m awarded – one of the largest grant sums allocated as part of this scheme – recognises the detrimental impact that COVID-19 has had on wider fundraising efforts to support The Playhouse, which is due to open in 2022.

Funding boost for Brighton Dome s Corn Exchange refurbishment

A RESTORATION project has been given a major lift after receiving almost half-a-million pounds in government funding. The huge sum has been awarded to Brighton and Hove City Council to support work on the Royal Pavilion Estate regeneration project. It will be used to fund the refurbishments of Brighton Dome’s Corn Exchange and Studio Theatres. READ MORE: The Grade I listed Corn Exchange was built in the early 19th century for the Prince Regent as his riding house and supper room, and features unique heritage features including the widest span timber frame in the country. The restoration of the site began in 2017.
