Lander, Wyoming, United States: A woman was given a prison sentence for falsely accusing a man of sexual assault and trying to extort money from him.
36-year-old Rachael Myla Stagner was given 21 months behind bars for falsely accusing a white man of sexually assaulting her on the Wind River Indian Reservation. She was indicted in September 2020 but pleaded guilty in this year to making false statements to authorities.
Stagnerâs lies ignited an investigation by the FBI due to the alleged crime taking place on an Indian reservation. The U.S. Attorneyâs Office said that even as her story started to fall apart, she kept on insisting she had been sexually assaulted in an attempt to extort money from the falsely accused man.

A woman who entered a plea of “guilty” to a federal charge that said she had made a false accusation of sexual assault, has been sentenced to a time of incarceration.
The 36-year-old woman was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson to 21 months imprisonment. Upon her release, the US Attorney’s office says the woman will serve 36 months of supervised release, and is ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kerry Jacobson.
Wyoming Woman Gets Prison For False Sexual Assault Claim
A 36-year-old Lander woman has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for falsely accusing a man of sexually assaulting her, according to the Wyoming U.S. Attorney s Office.
According to the release, Rachel Myla Stagner pled guilty in January to falsely accusing a man identified in the release only as a white male of sexually assaulting her on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
According to the release, Stagner continued to make false allegations as the case was investigated as part of an effort to extort money from the man. Because of the fact that the alleged crime happened on the reservation, the FBI has jurisdiction and handled the investigation.
Acting United States Attorney for the District of Wyoming Bob Murray, announced Monday that 36-year-old Rachael Stagner of Lander was sentenced in U.S. District Court by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson. Stagner was sentenced to 21 months of imprisonment for making false accusations of sexual assault. According to the Department of Justice, Stagner was indicted on September 16, 2020 for making false accusations that she was sexually assaulted by a white male on the Wind River Indian Reservation. She pled guilty to the charge on January 4 of this year.
Stagner’s accusations initiated an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Because the alleged crime happened on the Wind River Indian Reservation, the FBI has jurisdiction. During the course of the investigation, Stagner continued with her false allegations in an effort to extort money from the victim.
