Qatar Petroleum launches new Sustainability Strategy
DOHA, January 13, 2021 Qatar Petroleum has launched its new Sustainability Strategy, which highlights its commitment and sense of responsibility as a major energy producer, and sets a roadmap for a sustainable and more prosperous future for Qatar and the world. The new strategy establishes a number of targets in alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement, and sets in motion a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. It stipulates deploying dedicated Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facilities to capture more than 7 million tons per annum of CO2 in Qatar, said a statement. The strategy also acts as a clear direction towards reducing the emissions intensity of Qatar’s LNG facilities by 25% and of its upstream facilities by at least 15%, and reducing flare intensity across upstream facilities by more than 75%. “Following a record 4.2 million acres burned in 2020, The Nature Conservancy strongly supports the $1 billion commitment for fire prevention actions from Governor Newsom in his FY 2021-22 budget proposal. (Honolulu) – At its October meeting, the Hawai’i Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (Climate Commission) endorsed two recently completed documents that operationalize the recommendations of the state’s Sea Level Rise Vulnerability and Adaptation Report (2017). These guidance documents, produced in support of the Commission’s Climate Ready Hawaiʻi Initiative, help state and county planners and government officials plan for growing impacts of sea level rise to communities, natural and cultural resources, and critical infrastructure.
