USC alum named acting US Attorney in South Carolina Noah Feit, The State (Columbia, S.C.)
Mar. 1 Following the resignation of his former boss, M. Rhett DeHart has been named the acting U.S. Attorney for South Carolina.
As expected, the South Carolina native and USC alum has replaced Peter McCoy, whose resignation became official at midnight Monday.
Because DeHart was the first assistant U.S. Attorney for South Carolina, he was elevated to the interim position by virtue of the Vacancies Reform Act, the U.S. Attorney s office said in a news release.
McCoy announced plans to resign from the office in a Feb. 23 letter to President Joe Biden.
Joyner, currently the First Assistant U.S. Attorney, will take on the additional responsibilities effective Feb. 28.
âClay is well-respected by law enforcement, the defense bar and our community, and he will do an outstanding job as Acting U.S. Attorney, Lamar said. I want to personally thank him for his counsel and his hard work, and I wish him all the best in this role. He will do an excellent job for the citizens of the Northern District of Mississippi.â
Joyner thanked Lamar for his three decades of service to the district as both an AUSA and USA. He pledged to continue the office s mission until President Joe Biden s new appointee is confirmed.

United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island Aaron L. Weisman s office announced on Friday that he has submitted his letter of resignation to President Joe Biden.
Weisman’s resignation is effective February 28, 2021. Serving as United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island has been the greatest honor of my career. I am indebted to the hard-working, dedicated, and conscientious professionals with whom I have had the privilege to work alongside at the United States Attorney’s Office, and who, day in and day out, carry out the Office’s critical justice mission – ensuring the just prosecution of federal-law violations, and that justice be achieved in the civil lawsuits brought by and against the federal government, said Weisman. I have no doubt that the Office, working together with its outstanding federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, will continue its exemplary service to all Rhode Islanders.
