Throughout Missouri s COVID-19 vaccination efforts, data have shown wide disparities in the vaccination rates of different racial and ethnic groups and while recent weeks have shown some improvement, many gaps remain.
Although vaccine hesitancy runs high in many African American neighborhoods, critics say the state’s inadequate efforts to reach those vulnerable communities have added to issues of mistrust and lack of health care access that are keeping vaccination rates low.

At least 200 people gathered to watch a historic moment Wednesday evening, as the city’s first African-American mayor took the oath of office on the steps of Alton City Hall. Police closed off part of East Third Street so people could watch as now former City Clerk Mary Boulds swore in Mayor David Goins, City Council members and the city treasurer and clerk.
After the ceremony and a closing prayer by Bread of Life Church Pastor Greg Denton, the elected officials went inside City Hall to conduct their first meeting. GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - After a wave of recent violence over the last few weeks, a church in the Soria City community of Gulfport is taking action.
Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church has created a neighborhood watch program to help patrol the streets in an effort to curb crime.
“If you come and engage in criminal activity in these communities, that the community will rise up against you,” said Pastor John Whitfield

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Concern is climbing in Gulfport as the after effects of violent crime and gunshots ripple through the community. City leaders and concerned citizens have been putting their heads together to do everything they can think of to stop the violence.
