After Murray State’s regional vaccination site was postponed because of ice storms, some members of the community received COVID-19 vaccinations on Sunday, Feb. 14, and Sunday, Feb. 21.
Chief Medical Officer Bob Hughes said approximately 945 people received their vaccination on these two days. Hughes said there was an amazing turnout with only a few people not showing to get the vaccine.
“The thing that was really nice was to see the expressions on people’s faces,” Hughes said. “There was a lot of joy that people were starting to get vaccinated. There’s been a lot of vaccinations given, but just to see that many people at one time coming in to be vaccinated was quite a delight for them. Even though it’s a two-shot series, there’s a lot of protection with the first shot.”
The Calloway County Health Department (CCHD) said the next round of COVID-19 vaccinations at Murray State’s CFSB Center will take place on Sunday, February

Murray State will become a regional COVID-19 vaccination site for the coming months, according to a press release by the University.
The CFSB Center will become a regional site, Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Thursday, Feb. 4. Murray State is one of four new location sites in Kentucky.
The CFSB Center will begin to give out the vaccine on Wednesday, Feb. 10, and Feb. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon on both days, according to the press release. Chief medical officer Bob Hughes said these two dates will be for those weeks and is subject to change based on the size of the vaccine shipments.
Governor Andy Beshear announced four new regional COVID-19 vaccination sites in the state with one to be located at Murray State University.
The sites are targeting Kentuckians over the age of 70, although people in the first two tiers are still eligible to receive vaccines.
The state now has 38 regional vaccination sites with eight located in western Kentucky and 15 in eastern Kentucky. Two sites are in Paducah and two are now located in Bowling Green.
The regional sites are meant to be able to handle high capacities and service a larger area. The governor said the new regional sites will receive 2,000 to 3,000 doses per week.
