The man found dead Monday in a driveway near Levi Fry Intermediate School had been stabbed numerous times, officials said Wednesday.
Ines Matias Cadena-Barragan, 40, died from a dozen or more stab wounds, said John âD.J.â Florence, chief investigator for the Galveston County Medical Examinerâs Office, citing forensic experts.
Investigators meanwhile are focusing on at least one person of interest in connection to Cadena-Barraganâs death, police said.
The news of Cadena-Barraganâs death shocked those who knew him through his job at Texas Cityâs Discount Seafood Market, 2419 25th Ave N.
âHe was so kind,â said Belinda Scott, who jokingly referred to him as her boyfriend.

City officials and civic leaders in La Marque were right to call for calm and urge people not to rush to judgment after a police officer shot a 22-year-old man dead Wednesday night.
Itâs hard to imagine a more effective way to undermine those laudable goals, however, than by being as defensive and tightlipped as officials were at a news conference Thursday.
At that unfortunate event, officials vowed to be transparent, disclosed nothing much and declined to answer even the most basic questions.
In doing so, they appeared to be circling the wagons, rather than setting off along a difficult path to the truth.
