Galway City councillor warns virus clusters among students could extend restrictions Published: Friday, 26 February 2021 12:22 A Galway City Centre councillor says the high prevalence of Covid-19 in the area is very concerning. The local electoral area had a 14-day incidence rate of over five times the national average at 1,292 per 100,000 people as of Monday. It compares to the national average of 240, while Galway City East has the fifth highest rate of infection nationally at 579 cases per 100,000. It has been reported that clusters of the virus stemmed from student accommodation and healthcare settings in the city. Fine Gael Cllr. Eddie Hoare says incidents like this will extend the rolling lockdown even further.

Castlebar records slight drop to 12th place in latest IBAL survey Castlebar has recorded a slight slip to 12 th place in the latest IBAL survey. Ballymun in Dublin is the worst litter blackspot in the country. The latest Irish Business Against Litter survey shows Kilkenny sparkles as the cleanest city nationwide. Litter levels rose in 24 of the 37 towns and cities inspected at the end of 2020, with only 17 being deemed to be clean. Across the region Sligo and Castlebar were ranked as clean to European norms at 11 th and 12 th place respectively. The An Taisce report for Castlebar noted that it was a good result, but a slight slip in cleanliness of the town, with a number of heavily littered sites to blame.
