Fair season starts in six weeks, with local organizers hoping to bring people back after the pandemic canceled last year’s events. Macoupin County Fair Board President Kim Carney Rhodes, pictured at the fairgrounds in Carlinville, said her board will have safety provisions in place for this year’s event planned June 8-12.
HIGHLAND Following last summer’s season devoid of livestock judging, carnival rides and grandstand entertainment the area’s county fairs are chomping at the bit to bring back the annual community events that celebrate our shared agricultural heritage.

WEST MICHIGAN â West Michigan s local health departments, along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer s office, are responding to the FDA s recommendation to pause the use of Johnson & Johnson s COVID-19 vaccine after reports of rare blood clots.
Office of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer:
âThe safety and health of Michiganders will always come first, Whitmer s office said in a statement. We will follow the FDAâs guidance to temporarily pause the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an abundance of caution, and adapt our vaccine strategy going forward until a further review of the data can be conducted. With this latest development, itâs more important than ever for the federal government to implement a targeted strategy that allocates additional Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to hotspots like Michigan to slow the spread of COVID-19 and save lives. BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Calhoun County Health Department says that as of Wednesday morning, the county has a cumulative total of 9,602 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to them with a total of 228 deaths attributed to the virus. This information is updated once daily, Monday through Friday, at www.
In the past week, Calhoun County as well as the State of Michigan, has seen a steady rise in positive COVID-19 cases. Calhoun County’s positivity rate has increased to over 10 percent which officials say demonstrates a large amount of community spread of COVID-19.
The department says COVID-19 vaccine distribution is currently the strongest defense they have against this surge of cases. They point to the evidence of vaccine effectiveness in the reduced number of cases in populations over 59, as many in that age demographic have been vaccinated.
