COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) â As the number of Branch County COVID-19 deaths continues to climb, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says they have a very limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine and they are currently vaccinating individuals in category 1A.
The C.H.A. reported on Thursday that there have been 72 COVID-19 deaths involving Branch County residents. All but five of the deaths have been reported since October 1. Branch County has the highest death toll of the three counties in the jurisdiction. St. Joseph County has recorded 59 deaths while 58 deaths have been reported in Hillsdale County. The Calhoun County Public Health Department, which is a separate agency, has reported 186 COVID-19 related deaths.
Here is everything residents 65 or older need to know to schedule an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Less than 24 hours after the Calhoun County Public Health Department made the announcement that county residents 65 years and older could begin calling to schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, they announced they are blown away with the community’s response.
Calhoun County Public Health Department officials say that due to the extremely high call volumes in response to the initial announcement, clinics are filling up fast. They say they are returning calls in the order they were received and are continuing to schedule more future clinics.

CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported on Tuesday that there has been a cumulative total of 7,009 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 184 deaths attributed to the virus.
Health Officer Eric Pessell says while Calhoun County’s percent positivity rate is lower than it has been in months, at just over 7%, residents should continue to follow public health protocols to reduce spread and get the percent positivity rate below 3%.
“As long as our percent positivity rate is above 3%, community spread continues to be apparent in Calhoun County,” said Pessell. “While it’s encouraging that vaccination efforts have begun, that process will take time. It reminds critical that we all wash our hands, wear face coverings, and socially distance, to slow the spread and keep our community safe.”

MARSHALL, MI (WNWN/WTVB) â The Calhoun County Public health Department says they will receive its first shipment of Pfizerâs COVID-19 vaccines as soon as this weekend. The vaccines are being shipped to health departments and hospitals around the country and state.
At the start, vaccine distribution will be limited to paid and unpaid persons working in healthcare settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials, and are unable to work from home, as well as residents and workers in long term care facilities.
Next in line will be essential workers. Those are the people who play a key role in keeping critical functions of society running and cannot socially distance in the workplace. The next phase includes high-risk adults, such as those with medical conditions that are risk factors for severe COVID-19 illness, and adults 65 years of age or older.
