He’s accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend with a gun and firing gunshots at her home last week. Authorities say the suspect came to a home in the 100 block of Battle Creek Avenue Friday evening. After an argument escalated, the suspect showed a gun before leaving. About four hours later, the couple said five to seven gunshots were fired at the house. Four people were inside but no one was hurt.

Albion College suspends student over racist and anti-Semitic graffiti

Kalamazoo, MI, USA / WKZO | Everything Kalamazoo | 590 AM · 106.9 FM Apr 9, 2021 6:44 AM ALBION, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – An Albion College student who school officials say was responsible for the racist and anti-Semitic graffiti in a stairwell at Mitchell Towers has been placed on temporary suspension.   The college posted on its Facebook page that the student acted alone and acknowledged their responsibility for these incidents.   The student was identified as a 21-year-old black man. He was immediately removed from campus while a full investigation is conducted as part of the college’s student judicial process.   The graffiti was discovered last Friday and led to three days of campus marches and boycotts of classes. Some students told WWMT-TV there have been at least three other incidents in recent weeks of racial and derogatory graffiti including drawings of swastikas.

1988 Battle Creek cold case murder solved thanks to DNA

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police Detective Scott Marshall says the October 1988 cold case murder of Gayle Barrus has been solved. Marshall told the Battle Creek Enquirer that according to DNA results, Roger Plato raped and stabbed the 30-year-old Barrus to death. The Battle Creek woman was last seen October 9, 1988 at the old Speed’s Koffee Shop on West Michigan Avenue. Her body was found by hunters 16 days later along River Road in Emmett Township. Plato died before Barrus’ body was found. He was a suspect in another rape when police detectives tried to interview him. But Plato resisted police and was shot to death as he tried to flee.
