Home Secretary Priti Patel has criticised a senior Tory MP for breaching coronavirus rules by attending a Christmas dinner for 27 guests.
Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the Commons Defence Committee, apologised on Thursday after it emerged he gave a speech to a business group’s event in London billed as a Christmas party.

Live updates as the Liverpool City Region will stay in Tier 2 Matt Hancock has confirmed this morning - as he gave a Commons statement announcing which tier each part of England will be in for Christmas.
There was confidence that the Liverpool City Region would retain its Tier 2 status because rates have not surged since the rules were relaxed on December 2.
And the health secretary has confirmed this. However Lancashire and Greater Manchester were among areas told they must stay under the tougher Tier 3 restrictions.
