(MENAFN - Kashmir Observer) Parliament building - PTI File Photo Srinagar: With Ghulam Nabi Azad and Nazir Ahmad Laway completing their terms as Rajya Sabha members on Monday, Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory doesn t now have any representatives in the Upper House of Parliament.
While Fayaz Ahmad Mir(PDP)and Shamsher Singh Manhas(BJP) ceased to be members of the House on February 10, Azad and Laway completed their six-year terms as RS members today.
With this, Jammu & Kashmir has lost representation in the Rajya Sabha and there are no immediate chances of the Union Territory again sending its members to the House as the Assembly elections are still far away. Similar situation had also arisen twice since 1952.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will get the status of a state at an “appropriate time”. Shah made the remarks in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, which was passed by a voice vote.
The ordinance enables the merger of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre of the All India Service officers with the AGMUT cadre. AGMUT stands for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories. Experts fear this merger would erode the presence of Kashmiris in key bureaucratic positions within the Valley.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory status is temporary and the region will get statehood at an appropriate time, said Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.Replying to a debate on the Jammu and Kashmir
