Srinagar, Jan 06: The Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed for the fourth day on Wednesday as new landslides were reported along the only road that connects the Valley with the rest of the country. According to reports, the stranded vehicles along the highway have been taken to safer places amid continuous rain and snowfall.
Taking to Twitter, Jammu and Kashmir traffic police said, Jammu Srinagar NHW [national highway] blocked due to snow accumulation at Jawahar Tunnel and Landslides/mudslides/shooting stones at Samroli, Magarkot, Panthyal, Marog, Cafeteria mor, Dhalwas, Nashri @JmuKmrPolice.

Authorities on Wednesday evacuated 22 families in avalanche-prone area of Kulgam and accommodated them in a school in the south Kashmir district.
Officials said that 22 families of Marisle Nallah Kund were evacuated and accommodated in the Government Middle School in view of avalanche warning in the area. The step has been a precautionary one to prevent any loss of life, they added.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has issued medium and low level avalanche warnings for higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, Jan 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (DMA) on Wednesday issued high, medium and low level avalanche warning for the higher reaches of the avalanche prone areas of J&K.
A high danger level avalanche warning has been issued for the higher reaches of Poonch, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara Bandipora and Kulgam districts.
Similarly, medium level avalanche warning has been issued for the higher reaches of Rajouri, Udhampur, Ganderbal and Reasi districts.

As per a communiqué received in this regard, High Danger level avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Poonch, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara Bandipora and Kulgam districts.
Similarly, medium level avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Rajouri, Udhampur, Ganderbal and Reasi districts.
As such, people living in these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid going to the vulnerable areas and to remove snow from their rooftops to avoid loss of lives.
