Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported the office received a report of a house fire in rural Remer at 1:46 a.m. Friday. The home is in the area of Ghe We Zance Lane Northeast, in Boy Lake Township. Deputies arrived and began checking the residence, which was filled with smoke and fire. Deputies were able to locate one adult female who was in a bedroom in the residence and quickly got her out from the residence safely. The investigation indicates an adult female and three children were able to escape the fire prior to responders arriving.

Deputies responded and located the three female kayakers, who were unable to paddle their partially submerged kayaks that had taken on water. One of the girls was in the water for several minutes, the sheriff’s office reported.

The woman was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
