One more Kossuth County resident has died from COVID-19, pushing hte total to 45. As of Friday, there had been 6,927 tests; 1,839 positive tests; and 1,540 recoveries. Friday s positivity rate is 19.1 percent, just above Shelby County for highest in Iowa.
KOSSUTH COUNTY COVID-19 UPDATE: Thursday, Jan. 28, 11 a.m.:
In late November and early December, the positivity rate of those tested for COVID-19 in Kossuth County was the highest in the state, topping out at more than 30 percent over a two-week period, meaning during that time, 3 in 10 people who were tested were discovered to be positive for the virus. The positivity rate declined to less than 12 percent in early January, but it bounced back to 26 percent as of Jan. 18, when it became the highest in the state. As of Jan. 28, it remains the highest in the state at 19.3 percent.

– COVID-19 vaccine providers in Iowa, including Kossuth County Public Health, may distribute the vaccine to additional priority groups. This includes individuals 18 to 64 years of age with medical conditions that may increase the risk of severe illness from the virus. The COVID-19 vaccine is still available for people age 65 and older and others who meet the criteria in priority groups 1B and 1A.
The Call Center will be open on Thursday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., scheduling appointments for a vaccine clinic on Wednesday, March 17. The Call Center phone number is 515-395-9111. ALGONA The Algona Senior Center was filled to capacity and people were being turned away at the door on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Health care professionals from Kossuth Regional Health Center were there to answer questions and address concerns regarding the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccine. Dan Peterson introduced the speakers and said “We can leave here a better informed community.”
Dr. Rachel Venteicher, Joanne Roepke Bode, public relations manager at KRHC and Lynzie Nilles, the director of Kossuth County Public Health presented the crowd with valuable information.
