NEW DELHI: The new strain of coronavirus which is said to be 70 per cent more transmissible has left countries scrambling to announce travel bans even as the world heads into Christmas and New Year holidays.
Amid fears over the highly infectious new mutant strain of the novel coronavirus, several countries have imposed travel bans to the UK.
India suspends flights to the UK
India suspended all flights to the UK following concern over the new virus strain, hours after Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the authorities are keeping a close watch. Considering the prevailing situation in the UK, the Indian government has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December. This suspension to start w.e.f. 11.59 pm, 22nd December, read a statement from the ministry of civil aviation.

India became the latest country to shut all its borders with the United Kingdom after France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Bulgaria, the Irish Republic, Turkey, Canada and several other countries suspended flights as a full lockdown came into force in London and southeast England to contain a mutation to the coronavirus.
