Opening the door for young unemployed
Unemployed young people are being given the chance to develop into prime job applicants, through a new energy programme in London’s West End.
The community–run scheme is helping 16-19 year olds who have been out of the job market for a long time, and feel disengaged with education, uncertain of their future in these difficult times. It also aims to help lift youngsters and their families out of fuel poverty through education.
Energy Garden’s youth training programme covers sustainable energy, social enterprise, community development, and practical learning in the urban environment. In a new partnership it has joined up with UK Power Networks which delivers power to 2.3 million homes and businesses across London, to give the young people behind-the-scenes insight into energy issues including the UK’s transition to net zero and a visit to Leicester Square where the company is installing
She said the situation had been made more stressful by the fact her husband, who has type one diabetes, keeps his insulin in the fridge and the longer the fridge was without power the more concerned they were the medicine would spoil.

Mrs Lingwood said between December 24 and 27 the family went without power for a cumulative 30 hours and 45 minutes. I just think it s ruined Christmas, it really has, she said.
Mrs Lingwood said she felt UKPN could have handled the situation better. I know UKPN couldn t predict the faults, I understand that but when you hear the generators ran out of fuel, that s a bit ridiculous, she said. It s just errors that could have been avoided and stupid errors that shouldn t happen.

Families in a Norfolk village who were left without light and heating for five days have said nothing can compensate for a ruined Christmas .

The cuts ran from Christmas Eve until December 29, when UK Power Networks (UKPN) was able to resolve the problem.
At one point more than 130 properties in Shipdham were without electricity.
Storm Bella is expected to batter south Essex on Boxing Day, Met Office is warning. The Met Office said conditions across the UK will turn increasingly unsettled through to December 27, with seriously strengthening winds and heavy rain moving in from the north. A yellow warning for wind for the whole of England has been issued and will be in force from 3pm on Boxing Day. Gusts could be up to 80mph and there could be damage to property in places.
