VIROQUA –Students in Carissa Brudos’ first semester art and design class at De Soto High School had the opportunity to create designs for Wonderstate Coffee for a logo design challenge. Brudos said she wanted to incorporate real world art and marketing in students’ everyday lives, so she reached out to Wonderstate, which is based in Viroqua, with her idea of a logo design challenge. Brudos sent the designs to Wonderstate, where the winners were selected. Barnes’ message is flood resilience and ag opportunities are priorities Monroe County RAINFALL MONITORS like these will be deployed in the Kickapoo and Little LaCrosse River water-sheds in Monroe County this spring. The devices have been purchased through a fundraising effort and donations from the community, and will allow almost real-time notifications in a flooding situation.
MONROE COUNTY - Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes returned to a meeting of the Monroe County Climate Change Task Force on Wednesday, Feb. 3. This was almost one year since the first time Barnes had addressed the group. His message this time was that flood resilience and opportunities for agriculture are top priorities of the Evers’ Administration’s Climate Change Plan.

VIROQUA –The Friends of Vernon County Parks and Forests are hosting the ‘Sidie Stomp’ candlelight hike this weekend at Sidie Hollow County Park this weekend. The candlelight hike around Sidie Hollow Lake will take place from 5-8 p.m. The event is co-hosted by Vernon Trails. Bring a warm beverage and take a beautiful walk, ending with a bonfire at the main shelter… Vernon County highway commissioner Phil Hewitt reported that the Amish elders had presented a check in the amount of $18,230 to him, and also donated around $6,000 to Monroe County. The community had collected $25 per buggy with the money to be used for road improvements. VIROQUA –The Vernon County Health Department offered its first COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic last week for front line health care workers. They were able to administer the first dose of the vaccine to 150 people. More information about upcoming clinics and vaccine eligibility will be released in coming weeks… The Friends of Vernon County Parks and Forests hosts ‘Snowcially distanced’ guided winter walks exploring various Vernon County parks! The next walk will take place at the Upper Duck Egg Park starting at 3 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6. The winter walks and bonfire series are for family and friends of all ages.
