A British university was
named the world s most committed to sustainability, according to a global ranking of higher education institutions.
The University of Manchester was deemed overall winner in the
Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for 2021, scoring highly in areas of urban sustainability, responsible consumption and ocean conservation.
The report ranked 1,240 universities from 98 countries on their commitment to each of the UN s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to an overall table.
Western countries dominated the top 10, with 24 countries and regions from six continents appearing in the overall top 100.
Institutions in the Middle East performed well, with 31 universities from 11 Arab League territories in the top 100 positions, demonstrating the high level of commitment to achieving the sustainability goals.

JEDDAH: While consuming excessive food during the month of Ramadan goes against the purpose of the holy month, for many Saudis and people of the region, it is a time to indulge in special foods, which often leads to overeating.
For years, Saudis have been facing problems with obesity, with unhealthy diets leading to a variety of poor health conditions. While numerous campaigns have been launched to combat this issue, including by the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), their advice seems to fall on deaf ears during Ramadan.
Community Jameel Saudi and King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) announced the launch of the Jameel Fund for Infectious Disease Research and Innovation in Saudi Arabia to combat COVID-19 and related diseases, including the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of clinical solutions to treat a range of infectious diseases in the Gulf region and worldwide. The launch of the fund coincides with the 75th anniversary of Jameel family philanthropy.
The Jameel Fund targets several high-impact projects that advance our ability to understand, prevent, diagnose, and treat coronaviruses and other infectious diseases. Alongside practical solutions, research articles to be produced out of the collaboration will be reviewed by specialist researchers before they are made available and published for free by both sides.
