Dr Yasmin Rashid of Pakistan: the minister extraordinaire

I remember meeting Dr Yasmin Rashid, Punjab Minister of Primary and Secondary Healthcare in March 2020 at the office of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in Lahore. A big smile on her face, she was talking to different groups of journalists as she walked through the room before the commencement of the Chief Minister-headed meeting on the coronavirus-related SOPs and the lockdown in Punjab. PHOTO: UHS website LAHORE: The Syndicate of University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Monday gave a nod to a law draft on the provision, management and equitable distribution of unclaimed and unidentified human bodies for academic purposes.  The 61st meeting of the UHS syndicate was held on Monday with UHS Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Javed Akram in the chair.  The meeting observed that there should be a proper law for the use and distribution of unidentified human corpses for medical education.

Law on unclaimed bodies’ academic use okayed Lahore March 16, 2021 LAHORE: The Syndicate of University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Monday gave nod to a proposed law on provision, management and equitable distribution of unclaimed and unidentified human dead bodies for academic purposes. This approval was given during the UHS syndicate’s 61st meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram. The meeting was attended by VC University of Education Prof Talat Naseer Pasha, Principal Sargodha Medical College Prof Humaira Akram, Prof Nasir Shah, Prof Nadia Naseem, Dr Saqib Mehmood whereas Prof Sajid Maqbool, Prof Waheed ul Hammed and Dr Asad Zaheer participated online. Representatives of Punjab Health and Finance departments also attended the meeting.
