CHARLOTTE, N.C. Rory McIlroy finally won when he least expected it, and it was as sweet as he could have imagined.
Only after he hung on for a one-shot victory in the Wells Fargo Championship, his first title in 18 months, did he reveal his neck locked up during his final practice session and if not for a late tee time Thursday, he would have had to withdraw.
And when he seized control Sunday afternoon with back-to-back birdies from the bunker down the stretch, he started to get ahead of himself thinking how cool it would be to see his wife and 8-month-old daughter waiting to celebrate with him on their first Mother’s Day.

Martin Kaymer would be eager to bend the ear of fellow multiple Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth as he looks to end his win drought at the 2021 Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett.
The German last tasted victory when he claimed his second Major at the 2014 U.S. Open but has had a number of near misses since, including when he recently finished third at the Austrian Golf Open.
Kaymer would love to make a similar return to the winner s circle at The Belfry this week, and would have no qualms in taking advice from his fellow former World Number Ones.

Rory McIlroy hit an impressive 75% of greens in regulation during his winning week at the Wells Fargo Championship, picking up more than five strokes on the field in Strokes Gained: Approach en route to his 19th PGA TOUR victory.
McIlroy had some old tools in his box at Quail Hollow that helped him hoist a PGA TOUR trophy for the first time in 18 months.
McIlroy returned to his 2017 Rors Proto TaylorMade irons a prototype version of TaylorMade’s P730 irons, which were released in August 2017. The two-time FedExCup champ played the irons after signing with TaylorMade in May 2017.

MJ Daffue continued his success in Monday qualifiers, successfully earning a spot in his fifth PGA TOUR start of the season.
Daffue shot a 64 on Monday that included three eagles. He has made the cut in two of his five PGA TOUR starts this season (he also received one sponsor exemption). His T12 at the Sanderson Farms Championship is the best finish by a Monday qualifier this season.
His record on Mondays is incredible. In the last two years, Daffue has qualified for 12 events on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR.
