Gun violence surges in Cleveland over July 4 weekend as police report 17 people shot in 14 shootings

CLEVELAND â The Fourth of July holiday weekend was one full of gun violence in Cleveland as 17 people were reported to have been struck by gunfire between Friday and Monday, according to Cleveland police.
Police reported 14 separate shootings between Friday and Monday with 17 victims. None of the shootings have been reported as fatal, but many of the victims required transport to nearby hospitals.
It has not been said if any of the shootings are connected.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A 44-year-old man was killed in the early morning hours Tuesday when the car he was driving crashed into a tree along Kinsman Road on the cityâs East Side.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. when the manâs 2006 Volvo S60 â which was heading southeast on Kinsman Road â went left of center, crossed the sidewalk, and hit a tree in a vacant field, according to Cleveland police media release.
The Volvo rolled before coming to rest, the release said.

CLEVELAND, Ohio A 57-year-old man died after someone attacked him in the city’s Kinsman neighborhood, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.
The medical examiner on Friday ruled the Dec. 21 death of Jonathan Wainwright a homicide. He died from blunt force injuries to his head and body.
Police initially were unsure if Wainwright had been attacked or if he suffered a medical condition, according to police reports.
Wainwright was found dead about 12:45 p.m. on Kinsman Road and East 77th Street. An ambulance took him to University Hospitals. No arrests have been made in the case.
