Criss Angel, the
Mindfreak magician with a show at Planet Hollywood Resort, is going into the restaurant business. Angel bought Sugar’s Home Plate for $280,000 some 65 miles northeast from Las Vegas in Overton, Nevada, with fast-casual fare.
Angel discovered the restaurant while dirt biking with his family in the Moapa Valley near Valley of Fire State Park. He teams up with his brother Costa Sarantakos and pizza maker Mike Baram to convert the restaurant into the fast-casual Cablp (pronounced Ca-blip), short for Criss Angel’s breakfast, lunch, and pizza. Sarantakos ran his father’s New York restaurants for years while Baram owns Baldwin Pizzeria & Restaurant in Parsippany, New Jersey.

COVID-19 certainly put a major damper on the live poker scene since last mark. Many rooms were closed for months with some not returning at all.
Major tours like the
World Poker Tour (WPT) cancelled numerous events and have only recently returned.
The WSOP shifted the annual summer series to the fall this year. The WPT only recently began running live events and is currently finishing TV final tables from last year.
Online poker sites around the world saw surges during the pandemic. That includes the US market, which has seen historical highs since March 2020.

Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International have become the latest operators to secure approval to return to full capacity at their land-based casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, with social distancing measures also set to be eased.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) gave the all-clear to both operators to significantly ease novel coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions at their casinos in Las Vegas, with the properties now set to return to near-normal operations.
However, the easing of measures will only apply to the casino gaming floor, with all other areas of the properties still subject to 80% occupancy restrictions and three-feet social distancing policies.

The Silverton also received approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board to operate its casino at full capacity, effective immediately. The capacity change includes the removal of social distancing restrictions and plexiglass dividers from gaming tables and slot machines, as well as full capacity at bars on the casino floor.
The waiver only applies to gaming floors. Restaurants, pools, and other non-gaming areas still adhere to Clark County’s mandate with 80 percent occupancy restrictions and three feet of social distancing. Masks are still mandated statewide.
Clark County, which is in charge of COVID-19 mitigation efforts, remains at 80 percent capacity, with the hope of expanding to 100 percent occupancy once 60 percent of residents receive a COVID-19 vaccine shot. The county reports 47 percent of eligible Clark County are vaccinated.
