As many as 1,500 mobile towers and telecom gear owned by Reliance Industry’s Jio were vandalised in Punjab allegedly by farmers protesting the new agricultural legislations, amid fear and resentment that the reforms will pave the way for corporate exploitation, NDTV reported on Monday.
A representative of the telecom company told the news channel that multiple acts of vandalism and arson, including physical damage of towers and theft of generators, had led to power disruptions in parts of the state. The state police had not taken action against the perpetrators as of Monday.

Chandigarh, Dec 29 : With more than 1,500 mobile phone towers having been vandalised in Punjab amid protests over the three farm laws, farmer leaders at the agitation site on the Delhi border on Tuesday appealed that these vital infrastructure should not be damaged.
Denying any role in the damaging the telecom towers, farmer leaders, in their appeal from the Singhu border where their agitation entered 34th day, said the mobile tower and infrastructure of any company should not be damaged as their call was only on boycotting a company.

The farmers have urged the public to take a pledge to support their struggle and demand the repealing of the three farm laws. All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, the protesting farmers umbrella body has also planned rallies in Patna and Thanjavur on December 29 and in Manipur and Hyderabad on December 30.
