Crash kills Union man

UNION — A single-vehicle crash Friday, July 9, injured one Union County resident and killed another. Oregon State Police reported the crash occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Highway 237, about 2.5 miles south of Union, and claimed the life of Conner Seale, 20, of Union. Trevor Powers, 19, of La Grande was driving a Pontiac Grand Am heading north on the highway with Seale as the lone passenger, according to state police, when the car left the road and crashed. An ambulance rushed Powers to Grande Ronde Hospital, La Grande. Oregon State Police, the Union Fire Department, the La Grande Fire Department, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation all responded to the crash.

Obituary: Rusty L Mink

Elgin Rusty Lee Mink, 70, of Elgin, died June 18, 2021, at Grande Ronde Hospital. At this time a public service is not planned. Arrangements are by Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, La Grande. Rusty was born Aug. 14, 1950, in La Grande, to Robert Ray and Chere Merle (Bailey) Mink. He was raised in La Grande and lived in other parts of Oregon briefly before returning to the La Grande and Elgin area. He was retired, having worked as an engineer for the Oregon Department of Transportation for many years. When Rusty was young he enjoyed hunting with his family, and throughout his life he had a great appreciation for fireams. He was an active member of the La Grande Rifle/Pistol Club with his brother Rocky. Together they instructed community members on proper gun safety and handling, and facilitated instruction at a tactical range.

Fatal crash near Union

UNION — One person died and another was injured in a motor-vehicle crash on Friday, July 9, on Highway 237, about 2-1/2 miles south of Union, according to the Oregon State Police. The single-vehicle accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. The surviving accident victim was transported by ambulance to Grande Ronde Hospital, La Grande. The vehicle involved in the crash had only a driver and a passenger. The Oregon State Police, the Union Fire Department, the La Grande Fire Department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the crash. State police did not identify the individuals involved in the crash.
