Fiber Gigabit-Capable Broadband Service Coming to Rural Tx & Ar
Here s some great news if you live in the more rural areas surrounding Texarkana, Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative, through a wholly-owned fiber subsidiary, has secured more than $53 million through the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund to deliver gigabit-capable broadband service. The fiber entity will offer service throughout the rural Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas communities served by Southwest Arkansas Electric, along with designated rural communities in Louisiana.
According to the press release, the cooperative’s fiber entity intends to launch a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to serve 100% of the 26,000-plus homes and businesses in its 11-county service territory. The RDOF funding will enable it to launch and deploy the gigabit-speed network to its members in a timely and cost-effective manner, allowing them to realize the economic, educational and community benefits

Charter Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) is rolling out a multibillion-dollar initiative to deliver high-speed broadband access to more than 1 million unserved customer locations across 24 states.
What Happened:Charter was awarded a contract through the Federal Communications Commission s the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) Phase I auction.
Charter budgeted approximately $5 billion for the project, which will be offset by $1.2 billion in support won from the RDOF auction.
The initiative is designed to reach mostly rural areas with 1 Gbps high-speed broadband access, with starting speeds of 200 Mbps. Charter said this new connectivity will enhance telemedicine, remote learning and work and other applications that rely on high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity.

Prince George Electric Cooperative s Ruralband subsidiary is getting more than $6 million from the Federal Communications Commission to expand broadband service to five counties in central and southeast Virginia, including Prince George and Dinwiddie.
The money is coming from the FCC s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund s phase 1 auction.
Ruralband and PGEC said in a statement Monday that they will use the federal dollars to expand its home service to customers in Prince George, Dinwiddie, Isle of Wight, Surry and Sussex counties. Currently, more than 5,000 customers are in its fiber-to-the-home program.
