The Glenwood Springs Fire Department quickly contained a brush fire with high potential to spread near the Three Mile footbridge Friday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire near Three Mile Bridge at 2:21 p.m. Friday which had burned a quarter-acre on a moderate slope with the potential to spread quickly, a news release from Mina Bolton, public information officer for the Glenwood Springs Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to completely contain the fire within 10 minutes and continued to extinguish residual fire within the containment area and prevent a reignition during high winds, the release states.
“Witnesses reported seeing juveniles in the area prior to seeing smoke,” the release states.
A longtime Roaring Fork Valley resident agreed to a plea bargain Wednesday in a case where he fired a handgun to break up a dogfight near Crown Mountain Park in January.
Robert Guion pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. Charges of felony menacing and disorderly conduct were dropped by the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Guion faced a possible sentence of 12 to 18 months of imprisonment and a fine for tampering with physical evidence, a class-six felony. He faced a possible sentence of six months in jail and a fine for reckless endangerment, a class-three misdemeanor.
Instead, under terms of the plea agreement, he was given a deferred judgment where the guilty pleas will be removed from his record if he stays out of trouble for the next two years while under supervision of the probation office. The sentence by Eagle County District Judge Paul Dunkelman also requires Guion to perform 72 hours of useful public service and attend a firearm

An Inverness woman whose body was recovered from her burning home Sunday afternoon died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while her husband s death in the fire is still under investigation, authorities said Monday.
Inverness Police Chief Bob Haas said 82-year-old Marlene Pieracci was found inside a vehicle in the garage of the home on the 200 block of Bradwell Road.
Her husband, 84-year-old Mario Pieracci, was found in the living area of the house and appears to have died as a result of the fire, Haas said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but police do not believe there was foul play involving someone outside the home, Haas added.
INVERNESS, Ill. (WLS) A couple in their 80s died in a fire in Inverness on Sunday, in what was likely the northwest suburb s first deadly fire in decades.
A next door neighbor called to report the fire at 219 Bradwell Road shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.
Dozens of firefighters from 14 agencies arrived to call, officials said.
Firefighters were able to get the flames under control shortly after arriving.
Crews entered the home and found a man and woman, one of whom was in the kitchen, May said.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District said.
