Design consultants appointed for Digital Creative Hub in West Roscommon Design consultants have been appointed for the planning of a Digital Creative Hub in Ballaghadereen. The Digital Creative Hub will be built at the Fairgreen, and will work with creative enterprise start-ups and develop existing creative businesses, using and developing digital technologies. It will also provide a permanent base for the Family Resource Centre. This is part of the regeneration of Ballaghadereen town centre, and will lead to a total investment in the town of about €3 million. The project is being funded mainly through the Rural Regeneration Development Fund. s2smodern

Photograph by Eamon Ward Plans submitted for Holy Island visitor centre February 23, 2021 THE eagerly-anticipated project to create a visitor centre in Mountshannon as part of the Inis Cealtra Visitor Experience has reached a major milestone, with plans unveiled to renovate an iconic local building. The project, which is being led by the Tourism Department unit of the local authority, is tipped to be the ‘Jewel of Lough Derg,’ and has long been regarded as key to rebalancing tourism between the east and west of the county. Having taken 41 acres on Holy Island into public ownership in 2015, Clare County Council has submitted a Part 8 planning application for The Old Rectory building overlooking Mountshannon Harbour and Lough Derg. The application outlines how a mainland visitor centre will be developed to interpret the seventh century monastic site and its surrounds.

The Rural Regeneration Development Funding application was lodged by Ballymahon Town Team in recent weeks and includes some additional projects that will be of huge benefit to the community. Every organisation in the area has backed the application to create a model, which will be known as ‘Le Chéile’, and incorporate all age groups in the community, young and old.

Contracts signed for refurbishment of Old Royal Hotel Boyle Reporter:   ); Minister for State at the Department of Health and local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has welcomed the announcement  by Roscommon County Council that the contract for the refurbishment of the old Royal Hotel site in Boyle was formally signed in the Roscommon County Council Offices on December 16. The refurbishment, which is funded by the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF) from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Roscommon County Council is due to commence in mid January 2021. I am delighted to see that all the roadblocks for this badly needed rural regeneration project have been cleared and that construction can start in early 2021. This is a good day for Boyle, Deputy Feighan stated.
