Prize money up to Rs 50 lakh will be given
Panchayats that excel in COVID management will be rewarded
Mumbai: In a bid to contain the COVID-19 spread in the rural areas, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday (June 2) launched a ‘corona free village’ contest with prize money up to Rs 50 lakh.
Announcing the My Village Corona Free initiative recently, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray hailed the efforts of the villagers in containing the infection.
State Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif said that a ‘corona free village’ contest is a part of the initiative.
The prize money will be given to the best three village panchayats that excel in COVID-19 management.

In order to encourage the local administration in Maharashtra’s villages to take steps to curb the spread of Covid-19, the state government on Wednesday announced a ‘corona-free village’ contest. The winning village in each of the six revenue divisions of the state will get Rs 50 lakh as prize money.

The Kolhapur district in Maharashtra will go under a stringent 10-day lockdown from May 5 in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in western Maharashtra, Guardian Minister Satej Patil said on Tuesday.
