Pennsylvania’s dog wardens help save the lives of dogs and puppies that are found at breeding sites living in horrible conditions and suffering from infections and disease, veterinarians and state officials said Wednesday.
Unfortunately, they said, the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement is running low on funds and endangering dog warden visits, which could allow any unscrupulous breeders among the nearly 3,000 in the state to continue mistreating animals without fear of getting caught.
The solution, said Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, is for the Legislature to approve an increase in the dog license fee, which has remained unchanged since 1996, from $6.50 to $10 for spayed or neutered animals.

The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA) has proposed that the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) immediately reviews the reference costs being used for Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) investments to reflect the increased cost of materials in recent months.
It follows a meeting of the Farmers Charter Committee today (Thursday, March 4).
TAMS provides grants for on-farm capital investment and offers grant aid of 40% towards the cost of certain investments and up to 60% in the case of young farmers.
Increased costs
Chairperson of ICMSA Farm and Rural Affairs Committee, Denis Drennan, said that the cost of steel has increased substantially with the result that farmers expecting a 40% or 60% grant will see a substantially reduced grant in reality.

Ms Fordyce warned the UK risked being usurped by competitors as a result of the reputational damage being done to the country s fresh products.
She added: There are other countries waiting to take up these contracts - the Norwegians are all over the salmon. These will be long-term losses.
The Prime Minister, who previously said his Brexit deal would be very beneficial in the medium to long term for fishermen, reportedly wants Britons to eat more of the fish caught domestically, with most currently exported.
