Christine Tacon has been appointed chairman of Assured Food Standards (AFS) which operates Red Tractor, the largest farm and food assurance scheme in the UK covering food safety, traceability, animal welfare and environmental protection. In 2013 she became the country s first groceries code adjudicator (GCA), a role created to ensure the largest retailers treat their direct suppliers lawfully, to investigate complaints and arbitrate in disputes. She held that position until October 2020 and will now replace Dame Lucy Neville-Rolfe as AFS chairman on January 1.

Christine Tacon CBE has been appointed Chair of Assured Food Standards who operate the Red Tractor Assurance scheme. The former Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) takes up the role on 1 January 2021, replacing Dame Neville-Rolfe, who stepped down following backlash over her failure to back Agriculture Bill clauses that sought to protect British standards. As the UK s first GCA, Ms Tacon joins Red Tractor with decades of experience in change management, regulation and the food chain.

Tacon appointed chair of Red Tractor Assurance

Christine Tacon has been appointed chair of Assured Food Standards, operator of the Red Tractor Assurance scheme. Tacon, who was previously Groceries Code adjudicator, will take up the role on 1 January 2021. She replaces Dame Lucy Neville-Rolfe, whose tenure in the post ended in November. Responding to the announcement, Stuart Roberts, deputy president of the National Farmers Union said: “Christine Tacon . brings a wealth of industry experience to the Red Tractor table from across the food and farming sectors and from her work with Government in her recent role as Groceries Code Adjudicator. ​ “Having worked closely with Christine as the GCA, Red Tractor will benefit hugely from her strong leadership, collaborative relationships that she works so hard to develop, and an ability to drive the industry forward. ​
