Local Fine Gael Senator says the projects being funded will be of great benefit to each community. “The pandemic has made us all appreciate the importance of getting outdoors for a little exercise and fresh air.” “I’m delighted that a wide range of projects being funded today will support the development of recreational amenities such as walkways, cycleways, dog parks, community parks, playgrounds and more.”

Works of art unveiled at Monasterboice

Two of the finest works of art to be erected in the region have been placed in Monasterboice to celebrate and recognise the great history of the area. Monasterboice Tourism & Tidy Towns Group are behind the project, but it has been a huge team effort to make sure the idea came to fruition. The group remarked at the weekend as artwork, depicting the Round Tower and Crosses, were erected. We are so happy and proud to have the sculptures of our historic High Cross and Round Tower finally in place after what has been almost a 3 year project. From the initial idea of getting sculptures made, Kathleen Smyth s design, applications for funding, consultations and phone calls with engineers and County Council and some bumps along the way, it sometimes seemed as though it might be just a pipe dream.
