Andhra Pradesh 2nd Phase Panchayat Elections 2021: The second phase of the Andhra Pradesh Gram Panchayat Elections which commenced on Saturday registered 64.75 per cent polling at 12:30.
Voting for 2,786 ward members commenced at 6.30 am and will conclude at 3.30 pm while counting of votes will start at 4 pm. Elections will be held to elect 20,817 ward members.
In the second phase, the announcement was made for the election of 33,570 wards in a total of 3,328 panchayats spread over 18 revenue divisions in 167 mandals in 13 districts. Of these, 539 sarpanch positions were declared unanimous.
A total of 7,510 candidates are in the fray for the remaining 2,786 panchayats. At 10:30 a.m., 37.67 percent polling was recorded. State Election Officer Girija Shankar is overseeing the election process through webcasting.

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], February 12 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to PresidentRam Nath Kovind and Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleging breakdown of democracy in Andhra Pradesh during the first phase of gram panchayat elections and demanded the deployment of central forces in the remaining phases of the polls.
In a letter written to the President and Union Home Minister, he alleged that the State Election Commission is unable to conduct free and fair elections as the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is indulging in a violation of the election code of conduct.

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court in its orders on Tuesday has restrained the State Election Commission(SEC) from using the controversial mobile application e-Watch in the ongoing Gram Panchayat Elections till February 17.
A Division Bench led by CJ Arup Kumar Goswami
also directed the SEC to file its response over the security concerns raised against the application to which the SEC said that it was ready to withdraw the e-Watch app.
E-Watch is an app launched by the Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to monitor the elections and reporting violations of Model Code of Conduct.

Court bars Peddireddy from interacting with media till Feb. 21
State Election Commissioner (SEC) N. Ramesh Kumar’s order that Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy should be confined to his residence till February 21 to prevent him from vitiating the process of Gram Panchayat (GP) elections, was struck down by the High Court on Sunday. However, the court barred the Minister from interacting with the media till the above date.
Justice D.V.S.S. Somayajulu delivered the verdict after hearing the arguments on a house motion petition filed by Mr. Ramachandra Reddy Saturday evening against the SEC’s order to the Director General of Police, which was for restricting the Minister’s movements till February 21, when the last phase of the panchayat elections are scheduled to be held.
